Gateway Community and Technical College is seeking an exceptional individual who will join our Nursing department. The qualified candidate must have experience in nursing education and demonstrated leadership experience. The Director of Nursing should be committed to teaching and learning in a comprehensive community college setting which includes in classroom, college lab and clinical settings. The Director of Nursing should be energetic, enthusiastic, serve as a role model, and must accept ownership of her/his area of responsibility. 


  1. Provide leadership to the ADN Program.
  2. Coordinate the operations of the ADN Program.
  3. Develop and maintain collaborative relationship with the administration of Gateway Community and Technical College, other nursing programs within KCTCS, related facilities, and community.
  4. Participate in the preparation and administration of the ADN Program budget.
  5. Screen and recommend candidates for faculty appointment, retention, and promotion.
  6. Develop admission, retention, and progression criteria.   
  7. Develop and implement ADN Program policies.
  8. Facilitate continuing academic and professional development for the ADN Program faculty.
  9. Develop and negotiate contracts with clinical facilities.
  10. Established student/faculty ratio in the clinical practice experience based on the Kentucky Board of Nursing criteria.
  11. Submit the “Certified List of Program of Nursing Graduates” upon completion of all requirements for a degree to the Kentucky Board of Nursing.
  12. Provide a system of record and reports essential to the operation of the ADN Programs as specified by the Kentucky Board of Nursing.
  13. Insure the faculty shall be adequate in number and composition to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate and ADN Program and its curriculum in relation to the stated purpose, philosophy, objectives, and number of students and classes admitted.
  14. Mentor ADN Program faculty to enhance their teaching role.
  15. Represent the ADN Program on committees.
  16. Prepare necessary reports for the Kentucky Board of Nursing. 
  17. Insure that all faculty and staff positions within the ADN Program are filled with qualified individuals for both present and future needs.
  18. Promote coordination of the strategic planning efforts as the efforts relate to the ADN Program.
  19. Insure that the ADN Program complies with all Kentucky Board of Nursing Regulations and standards of accreditation.
  20. Represent athe ADN Program and provide leadership within the larger academic community and professional associations.
  21. Provide leadership in the ADN Program marketing efforts.
  22. Supervise, develop, and review the performance of those positions that report to this position.
  23. Determine staffing needs, assist in collection of job applications and resumes, recruit, interview, and recommend for employment qualifies applicants for open positions.
  24. Instruct as a guest lecturer in the classroom at least 3 times per semester, once per course preferred.
  25. Assumes additional roles as outlined by college leadership as identified by community industry needs

A minimum of five (5) years of nursing experience within the immediate past ten (10) years and demonstrated leadership experience. A minimum of two (2) years of full time teaching experience at or above the academic level of the program of nursing. An unencumbered current license or temporary work permit to practice as a registered nurse in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.  

Must have extensive computer skills in: Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook)

Education Requirements: 

A minimum of a masters or higher degree in nursing. 

Preferred Qualifications including education:

Previous nursing education administration experience with ADN or BSN programs.

Experience in the community and technical college setting

Expected start date:  7/2/2018 

Work hours (shift) will be: Typically days but evening clinicals may be required   

Participate in instructional presentation and delivery; the planning and designing of instructional programs; instructional evaluation and assessment; student advising, professional development; and service to the department, division, and College. Assumes a leadership role in supporting and promoting the mission, goals and objectives of the College by performing the duties and responsibilities of the position as directed by the leadership of the division and College.
