The Kentucky Speedway is in our own backyard and there are lots of changes going on! The Speedway was a new owner, who is planning on expanding the track and attempting to bring a Sprint Cup race to the facility. The Kentucky Speedway opened in 2000 and is a 1.5 mile tri-oval track that currently hosts four race weekends a year, including the Busch series and Craftsman Trucks. It has a seating capacity of 65,989 and is located in Sparta, Kentucky-just 35 miles from Cincinnati.
Mark will give an up-to-date report on the Speedway and the plans on the horizon.
What will mean if they get the Sprint Cup? NASCAR is the #1 spectator sport in the United States. It also attracts an international audience through its broadcast in more than 150 countries and 30 languages.
"This is a tremendous opportunity for Kentucky. It's estimated that there's about a $200 million dollar impact just for a weekend that involves a Sprint Cup race and that's hard to imagine but that's the way it is," says Governor Steve Beshear
